Gorilla Guy

It's been a long time since I've posted, but it seems like not many people are posting that often either. This is a character design for one of my classes.

Updatesz

Hey guys, long time no see, eh? These are all from my Illustration 1 class over the summer. Enjoy!

This was the first illustration we had, just an exercise with value and pattern.

Sargent vs. Dylan

Hey, long time no see! Thanks to Sarahjane for breakin' the awkward silence we had going there.

I've been working in collage for one of my professors and my oh my, it's a slow process. This self-portrait is the only one that's totally finished, so here ya go:

So, I got Adobe at work today which means I finally have access to not0stupid graphic software, so expect more updates from my end.

Here's my tester image from "checking" whether the software totally worked. FIVE MINUTES HEYAH.

Flesh and Bone

I'm drawing a lot of the spookystuff lately, but I'm feeling a little drained.  Perhaps some more happystuff is to come soon...

Anywho, I was proud of this.  Thanks to Josh "Amigo" Young for the idea.

Fond of Fonda

I have recently watched "The Grapes of Wrath" and "12 Angry Men" and grew fond of Fonda.
This is Henry Fonda from the film "12 Angry Men". I used a red prismacolor pencil to first sketch it out. Then I used 005, 02, and 03 Micron pens for the line work, a Fiber-Castell PITT artist (brush) pen for the large dark shapes, and finally Warm Grey Prismacolor Markers for the shading.

Bhalwhehf!!!@!@!

So here are a few things I've done since my last update. Mostly pen, and a few other things.

And to start off, here's Omari. With a cool little warp that the scanner made. He sits up so straight, it's awesome.

Anti-Croc

Hey, remember that "draw yourself as a villain" challenge we were supposed to do?

The Anti-Croc hates one thing on this earth--Croc shoes. Nothing irks her more than seeing a middle aged woman waddling down the street wearing a pair of purple Crocs. Deciding to wipe out the wearers of these horrible holed shoes, she looked to its two enemies--fire and scissors. Hoping to scare the living daylights out of anyone who wears the shoe--learning through example, if you will--she pulls out her flame-thrower for the unlucky few who are about to have their brightly-colored shoes melted to their skin.

It's been a while since I've logged on. Here's a recent sketch of mine.

WoopWoop Progress

Been pretty busy in getting back to San Francisco--but I thought I'd work on my sketch that I posted last week, so here's some progress.

Ah… Faux Nostalgia

So, I did these about a month and a half ago, and then completely spaced uploading 'em! Just plumb forgot.

Anyway, after a fun Friday night at Alex's house playing with Apple's default time-wasting app, Photo Booth, a number of the results were uploaded to Facebook—one of which caught my attention, thinking to myself it looked like some old book art (especially with Alex's facial expression and pose). Thus this:

The obvious inspiration being the classic Hardy Boys mystery novel covers, with the light blue band across the top.

Still wanting to give it my own sort of flair, I decided a full-fledged logo was needed. That took me a bit to knock out, but I think it has a nice retro look to it. For the secondary text I was able to figure out a typeface that looked mostly like the one used on the original Hardy Boys books (I'm actually pretty sure it's the very same).

Feeshie Feeshie

So, I just got a tumblr account. Any of you folks have one? You can follow me here.

Anyway, I wanted to post some new art—the preliminary stages of my next finished piece. I'll work on my villain soon, too—so expect those.

Massive Update of Sketches Here!

Dear peoples,
This semester, I feel like I've learned more than I've EVER learned, ever. I know that sounds a little ridiculous, but it's true. Even in highschool, I never had the kind of epiphany I've had this year. The fact that all I ever want to do is go to workshops really says something. The past year and a half before this semester I really didn't go to them at all because I thought they were help for the desperate. But really, the people who are serious about graduating and succeeding are all there. I've met so many incredible people at the workshops, it's ridiculous. If any of you see this, you're all my inspiration for improvement this semester. I love you guys and I'm so glad I got to meet you. These sketches are all from the 4 workshops a week I went to this semester. Enjoy, and any questions, feedback, or praise is always welcomed.

The Most Handsome…

…of all babies.

Update… Kinda.

So, exciting news in the sketch world. I just edited a whole lot of stuff so it's computer friendly, so my next update will be absolutely grand. However, I'm exhausted from all of this, and I want to accompany my update with a heartfelt review of my semester. I absolutely cannot do this while I'm feeling like such crap. I hope you don't mind. :)

Here's a preview....

Enjoy, and I'll be back soon....

Puppy!

I've been homesick for my dog Aurora, so I'm glad that I'm home and can spend time with her. She's absolutely adorable--a Siberian husky and Bernese mountain dog mix. She was super excited to see me when I came home, so I drew this quick sketch of me and her. Try not to barf glitter and rainbows when you see how cute this is.

Big Steaming Dump of Sketches

I am not a photoshop person, and we don't have a good computer setup right now, so my eyes feel like they're about to bleed from photoshoppin' all this junk together. I got lazy at the end, so deal with it.

Sketches.

Speaking of Classy….

The only survivor when a freighter carrying chemicals exploded on Lake Erie, The Flatus washed ashore with a completely rewired digestive system... After eating certain foods, the gasses produced by his body become extremely potent, and in some cases deadly.

Possessing a pre-existing disposition towards criminal activity, it was only natural that he begin using his newfound powers for personal gain. The Flatus can knock out entire city blocks for hours while he plunders the wealth left entirely at his disposal. Afterward he escapes, undetected and awesome.

End-of-Semester Work

Well, fifteen weeks have come and gone, and after this semester, I am left as the best artist I've ever been, and I keep getting better. I am far more passionate about the work I am going to be doing for a living now, and I really can't wait to keep going with what I love. So, here are three pieces that kind of summarize what I've learned. Enjoy! (I apologize for the quality of the image on the last photo--I'm lazy and haven't taken a good one, yet, so the values really aren't so harsh and blown out.)

Hurr I'm a Durr

I hadn't drawn from my imagination in a while, so I drew these two. Jenni had drawn some obscene thought bubbles above the woman's head, but they didn't turn out in the scan. A shame, I say.

Another sleep depraved drawing.  I really love using my arms as reference... a lot more than I should, probably.

I might color it, if somehow I feel compelled to...

Octopus Design Assignment

B&W Crem Soder

Hey guys, here's the last boring black & white portrait I'll probably EVER post again.  Sick of it.  I think it turned out well, though.

Free Figure Drawing Workshop

Hello all, it's nice to see some new artists. I have some news to share with everyone. In an effort to provide a resource for learning the clothed figure I have been given support to start a workshop free of charge where students may get together and draw costumed models in a more fast paced environment (meaning 2 to 5 minute poses) I'm still waiting on whether or not we will have classroom space available to us. Only drawback is that we will have to take turns modeling, or find someone to model for us. So talk to your friends. I'm sure we all know someone that likes to cosplay. Let me know if you're interested in joining up. The more people we have the better it will be.

And since it's been a while since I've posted some art, here is a sketch

Hai.

I'm new here. In an effort to make me less of a recluse, Parker invited me to this blog. Thanks, Parker. After this orgy of initial activity, I will probably disappear for months, so get it while you can. These are a couple drawin's from last semester:

This is just a quick oil pastel study of Mark. He models a lot for the department at the U. He was wearing his Jockeys and this cowboy hat. If anyone asked me to model in my underwear and a silly hat, I wouldn't. But Mark is just awesome that way.

Birds have cooler bones than you or me. Charcoal bones, evidently.

Thanks for having me.

it's a'Me!

Did this last night, for today's class—it looks rather a bit like me, I think.

Dial 'er Back

Tuesday's model.  This is my progress at about the hour mark...  It looks better than it did by the time class was over.

:P

So Much Stuff!

Here's a pretty massive update of what I've been doing recently. Stuff from Clothed Figure 1, Figure Painting, and Heads and Hands.

Here's some stuff from a few weeks ago. It's so strange to think I've improved even since then. All on 18x24 newsprint.
