This was for my design class final, which was to pick a song and try to convey its mood in a composition. I chose Mermaid by Anamanaguchi =D.

Alive!
Hey everyone! I know I haven't posted in a while (sorry), but here's some of what I've been working on in Advanced Perspective. Hope you like it!

Fire Flowa
I found some bright red/orange sunflowers on my way home today. I kinda hate flowers most of the time, but these ones were cool with me. And you also get to see a blurry version of the view outside my window. Neat.

Perspective Class Stuff
At last I have my stuff organized enough that I can finally upload it all. So here's some thumbnails from various assignments, theme: greek assignments 1, 2, and 3, and at the very bottom is a preview for the next post with theme: Noah's ark. These ones are the quicker homework assignments, not the final polished pieces; those come later.

I Forgot This Place Existed
In honor of two freaking amazing years and just remembering that this blog existed, here's some stuff I done. They're all Latex and collage on panel. The first two are portraits of this hepcat named Dave (both 16x20").

Moving Pictures, WHAT?
These are sequence drawings put together in photoshoops. This is a pretty new concept to me but I think I'm getting the hang of it. All the stuff in this post is homework/studio work from my Character Design for Cartoons class. (You'll have to open up the second 2 gifs in a new window, for whatever reason they refuse to fit on this page.)
OH, and another one:

Droid and Blob
This is my first attempt at combining 2D and 3D animation together.
I used Maya 2011 for the 3D animation and Flash CS4 for the 2D animation. I then rendered the final video in After Effects CS4.
The music is from Super Nintendo's Kirby Superstar's "Continue?" screen. (It was really the only the audio I felt went well with this animation.)

Recent Life Drawings
Went to the California Academy of Sciences not too long ago, so I drew a ray and a couple other things with a tombo marker and a waterbrush, but the ray was my favorite. Then last Saturday was the bi-annual Costume Carnival at AAU--the theme being cowboys and aliens--had a lot of fun with those.

Purps
It's been a while, but I hope to upload a little more frequently after this. I hope.
Finally finished! A huge thanks to Sjbernshizzle for the wonderful computer I was able to complete this on. Guys, it seriously makes the biggest difference of my life. Anyway, I thought I would just do this as if it were something I was doodling in my sketchbook except painted. I love working with text and graphic shapes over something fairly realistic. Which reminds me, I should upload some of my latest sketches that inspired this. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy!

Ah… Faux Nostalgia—Part 2!
In a recent effort to update my Facebook profile a bit, I happened to take a really crappy cellphone picture of myself, and then subsequently edited it into something that somehow turned out to be okay, and even more-so, vaguely reminiscent of black and white/sepia-tone album covers from any number of solo musicians in the mid-to-late-'80s.
Trying to pin down exactly what it reminded me of, I at first thought perhaps something from Kenny Loggins, or more specifically Robert Palmer's Riptide. Upon further reflection, however, I later realized it was most visually akin to Bryan Adams' Reckless.
Anyway, I made the offhand comment about the "'80s album cover" similarity after uploading the picture to Facebook, and eventually ended up deciding to go ahead and just complete the process:

It's Been Over Six Months…
…since my last post. But I promise you, I have been quite active with the blog, just behind the scenes.
Yet as satisfying as overseeing the web-design and curating the links page (among other things) has been, it's high time I actually show something up front. I post too infrequently, and I'm resolved to correct this.
Starting with showing off something I've been working on, off-and-on recently.
In December I drew this approximately 6"×6" sketch of Rebecca, based upon a photo taken back in August shortly after giving her a buzz-cut*.
Then, I digitally inked it. Yes, you read that correctly; this guy, who rarely ever colors anything (and when he does, skips right over the line-work cleanup process) inked something:

Time Keeps on Slippin'
Well, I'm not dead yet. Just super busy.
So here's this dude with an octopus and a time piece.
I like imagining that his other leg is a peg.

Just a Guy I Know
A sketch, trying desperately to be a final piece, but I wouldn't let it. Sorry pal. Also, kind of a sequel to my previous flying/floating bearded guy.

I Still Do Art Sometimes, Right?
Hi. This is Kayla. Remember me? It's okay if you don't, cause I've been forgetting you too.
Anyhoo, it's fun catching up and I love to chat, but I have to post a picture now.
It's pretty much a terrible photo, but can we go easy on me? This is, as you know, chalk pastels and colored pencils.
